Prospects for the use of tools for analysis of scientometry
In the current conditions associated with the forced transition to new software, universities are faced with the need to revise the tools for analyzing scientometric information.
On April 08, employees of the North-West Central Research Center held a round table discussion of the experience of using the Scopus and Web of Science databases and their analytical tools, as well as possible alternative services.
Presentations were made by employees of the Center for Strategic Research "North-West" Lilia Sklyar and Maria Semenova, as well as by invited participants:
- Elena Raspletina, Head of Library of St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University
- Elena Kasyanchuk, Director of Scientific Library of Siberian Federal University
- Marina Plokhikh, Director of Scientific Research Information Support Center of Information and Library Department of North-West Institute of Management, Russian Academy of National Economy, and Public Administration
- Sergey Astakhov, Project Manager of the Expertise Center for Implementing the Artificial Intelligence Federal Project, Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation
The participants of the round table noted the availability of alternative tools for accessing full-text publications, but the high level of analytics provided by the Scopus and Web of Science databases is not yet available in other services. A number of universities use their own tools to evaluate the performance of employees and departments.
Employees of organizations continue to test alternative publication and patent analytics tools provided by The Lens, Semantic Scholar, Dimensions, Orbit Intelligence, LexisNexis, and others, as well as the more familiar Google Scholar and eLibrary.Ru. It is with the latter that the participants of the round table associate the expectations of the developers for the soonest possible completion of the advanced analysis functionality.
