Research on participation of professional communities and industrial partners in vocational guidance and educational activities

Implementation period: 2020

In the period from July to September 2020 the Center for Strategic Research "North-West" Foundation in partnership with the Union "Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia)" conducted a research study, analyzing participation of professional communities and industrial partners in vocational guidance and educational activities.

The research was aimed at finding the best Russian and international practices to be used within the framework of the "Ticket to the Future", the Union’s  project on early vocational guidance  implemented for students in grades 6-11. The main task was to form a career guidance model , ensuring most effective involvement of professional communities and industrial companies.

The questions, raised by the authors of the  research study, were as follows:

• How do professional communities and businesses create and transfer their “order” for skills and forms of employment at present?

• What new skills and standards are emerging now? What knowledge and practical skills does a schoolchild absolutely need to have in order to be able to achieve the labor market success?

• How and in what formats are professional communities and industries prepared to be involved in vocational guidance and education?

To find answers to these questions, the CSR experts carried out a deep analytical work, studied the existing practices of including foreign and Russian organizations in vocational guidance of schoolchildren, worked on educational programs, expert training, etc. In addition, a series of expert interviews was conducted with representatives of various organizations (BIOCAD, SIBUR, Employment Center of St. Petersburg).

To test the research results, a round table with participation of those responsible for the "Ticket to the Future" project, the CSR “North-West” analysts, representatives of BIOCAD, IRISOFT and vocational guidance experts at schools and universities, was organized.

The joint research work of the CSR “North-West” and the WorldSkills Russia Union resulted in the report containing recommendations and proposals for the leaders of the “Ticket to the Future” initiative. The report can also be used as a source of new formats for the Union's interaction with schoolchildren and as a tool to attract the attention of the public and potential partners to career guidance issues.
